Napa Valley was blessed with superior grape growing weather in 2013. Spring was warm and dry with bud break arriving a month early. Our temperatures remained ideal and we were rewarded with a lush canopy and an even fruit set. Harvest arrived about two weeks early, resulting in perfectly ripe grapes with thick skin and small berries. Our 2013 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is a great representation of this fantastic growing region. Bold, rich and juicy, the mountain character of the wine is immediately apparent. Layers of plush red and black fruit ride atop a backbone of earth and minerals. Notes of mocha, licorice, baking spice and tobacco weave their way through this intense and focused wine. The finishing texture is pure, long and polished with fine-grained tannins maintaining the impeccable structure. Accessible and delicious now, this wine will age beautifully for decades.
